Chad to waive visa requirements for all African travelers starting January 1, 2027

Countries affected: Togo, Chad, Benin, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Republic of the Congo, Côte d'Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon

The Chadian government issued an official statement that, beginning on 1 January 2027, travelers holding ordinary passports from any African country will no longer need a visa to visit Chad. The new rule allows stays of up to 30 days, provided travelers submit an electronic travel declaration at least 24 hours before arrival.

The announcement listed several of the eligible nations, including Benin, Cameroon, the Central African Republic, the Republic of the Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea and Gabon. The waiver applies to ordinary passport holders; diplomatic or official passport holders may be subject to different arrangements.

Travelers should complete the online declaration on the Chadian government platform before departure. The change aims to boost tourism and regional integration by simplifying cross‑border movement within Africa.
