Malaysia limits multiple‑entry visa to 31 nationalities and four travel purposes

Countries affected: Malaysia, Afghanistan, Angola, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Burkina Faso, Burundi and Cameroon

Effective 1 September 2026 Malaysia’s Immigration Department changed the rules for its multiple‑entry visa (MEV). Only applicants from 31 designated countries can now apply for an MEV, and the visa is available for just four specific purposes: tourism, business, medical treatment and official visits.

Travelers from the listed nationalities who need a visa for other purposes must apply for a single‑entry visa instead. The change also means that the application form now shows only the four allowed categories when the MEV option is selected, simplifying the process but narrowing eligibility.

The policy aims to tighten immigration controls while still facilitating legitimate travel. Visitors should check the updated list of eligible countries and ensure they apply for the correct visa type before planning trips to Malaysia.
