Thailand Shortens Visa Free Stays and Reduces Visa on Arrival List

Thailand has approved major revisions to its immigration rules. The government resolved to end the 60 day visa free entry allowance that previously applied to 93 countries. Officials stated that the extended stays were being abused in ways that affected national security.

Under the updated rules, visitors from 59 countries will be eligible for a 30 day visa free stay. Travelers from Seychelles and Mauritius will receive a 15 day visa free stay.

The country is also adjusting its visa on arrival program. Visa on arrival privileges will extend to nationals of Azerbaijan, Belarus, and Serbia. The new rules will take effect 15 days after official publication in the Royal Gazette.
