U.S. Expands Visa Bond Requirement to 50 Nations, Effective April 2

The Trump administration added 12 more countries to the visa bond list, bringing the total to 50 nations whose citizens may be required to post a financial bond when applying for U.S. visas.

The bond amount can be as high as $15,000, set at the discretion of consular officers, and applies mainly to countries with high visa overstay rates for B-1 (business) and B-2 (tourist) visitor visas.

The requirement for the newly added countries takes effect on April 2, and travelers who post a bond are limited to entering the United States via commercial air ports of entry only.
