Guide

Bangladesh will sell you a visa at the airport, but only at certain doors. The visa on arrival is 50 US dollars plus tax, guides say about 51 dollars for a single entry, payable in US dollars only, and it is valid for 30 days for a single entry. It can be obtained at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka, the main and largest airport, located at Kurmitola about 17 kilometers north of the city center.

The politics around the India border matter more than they used to. India cut tourist visa access for Bangladeshi citizens to medical cases after the political upheaval in Dhaka in August 2024, and one report says it resumed tourist visas on 28 June 2026. Separately, in August 2025 Bangladesh's interim government announced the closure of three land ports along the border with India and the suspension of operations at another.

Benapole and Petrapole, the Kolkata to Jessore route
Described as the busiest crossing between India and Bangladesh and the most convenient for Kolkata to Dhaka trips. One guide says it is the only Bangladeshi land border that issues a visa on arrival, so other land crossings need a visa in advance. This site's India guide covers the Indian side.
