Despite that, the practical experience for most major visitor nationalities is genuinely simple: US passport holders need no separate tourist visa for stays up to 90 days, citizens of the EU and Schengen countries, France, Germany, Italy, and Spain among them, enter freely, UK citizens get 90 days within any 180 day period, and Canada, Australia, and New Zealand all get visa free short stays too.

The detail worth remembering is that holding a French visa does not automatically cover St. Barts, in most cases a separate one is needed for nationalities outside the visa free list, the same overseas territory carve-out that applies across France's other Caribbean holdings.
