Guide
Brunei keeps its entry rules simple for most visitors and adds one extra step for everyone. All ASEAN member state citizens enter visa free, the US, UK, and most EU passport holders get 90 days visa free, and Canada and Japan get a shorter 14 days, part of a visa free and visa on arrival network that has grown to cover more than 90 nationalities. Nationals of Bangladesh, India, Iran, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka are the exception, needing a sponsor, typically an airline or travel agent, to enter at all.
The extra step is the E-Arrival Card, required of every traveler regardless of nationality or entry method, air, land, or sea, and it has to be approved online before you arrive, separate from and in addition to whatever visa or visa free category applies to you.
Border crossings
- Brunei International Airport, in Bandar Seri Begawan
The main gateway for most visitors, where the E-Arrival Card approval is checked alongside the relevant visa or visa free status.
- Kuala Lurah, to Limbang in Sarawak
Open from 6am to 10pm, this crossing lets a traveler walk across the border and catch a taxi or hitch a ride into Limbang, a genuinely pedestrian friendly post rather than a vehicle only crossing.
- The western crossing, to Miri in Sarawak
Brunei's other main land connection, popular with both tourists and business travelers moving along Borneo's coast toward Miri.
Transit routes

It is a separate online step from the visa question, and skipping it because you are visa free is a mistake, everyone needs the approval.
