Guide
The Bahamas has a passport rule with a cruise exception. Passports are required by everyone entering the country, and guides say they should be valid for at least six months at entry, although closed-loop cruises that start and end at the same U.S. port may accept a passport card or government photo ID plus proof of citizenship. US citizens do not need a visa as bona fide visitors for a stay not exceeding eight months according to the Immigration Department, while another guide describes 90 days for tourism, so check with the department. UK and most Commonwealth citizens are also visa free, with exceptions.
The paperwork is moving online. On arrival in Nassau at Lynden Pindling International Airport, everyone must fill out an immigration form and complete an oral baggage declaration, and a unified digital pre-arrival form, the BDAC, was reported as being piloted. The Bahamas Customs Department has also launched an Exempt app, mandatory for returning residents, and required for visitors with items to declare. Currency of 10,000 dollars or more must be declared.
