Faroe Islands Travel Guide

The Faroe Islands, an autonomous Danish territory in the North Atlantic, sit outside the Schengen Area entirely, and a Schengen visa for Denmark specifically does not work here, the two are treated as genuinely separate destinations requiring separate authorization despite the political connection. Nordic and EU/EEA citizens can enter without a visa for up to three months, and nationals of countries generally exempt from Schengen short stay visas can visit visa free for up to 90 days too, but citizens of other countries may need a Faroe Islands specific visa even if they would not need one for Denmark or the wider Schengen Area.

For travelers who do need a visa, the application goes through a Danish Embassy or Consulate, and helpfully, if you want both a Faroe Islands visa and a Schengen visa for the same trip, a single application covers both, you do not have to apply twice. The reverse is equally true and worth remembering, a Denmark or Schengen visa on its own does not grant entry to the Faroe Islands, and a Faroe Islands visa does not grant entry to Denmark or Schengen, each needs its own specific wording.
