Lebanon's entry rules are simple to state and hard to live with in 2026. Citizens of more than 80 countries, including all EU members, Australia, Canada, and Japan, can get a free visa on arrival for a stay of up to one month, extendable for two more. Travelers need a passport valid for at least three months, and Wikipedia's summary lists a phone number, a Lebanese address, a non-refundable return ticket, and travel insurance among the requirements. Citizens of some African countries, including Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, and Tunisia, face a conditional visa on arrival, with a hotel booking and a minimum cash amount.
The rule that stops people at the border is the Israeli stamp. Lebanon refuses entry to anyone whose passport contains a stamp, visa, or seal from Israel, and a Lebanese visa is invalidated by one. Border officers enforce this at airports and land borders, and airlines can deny boarding when they see a problem.
The bigger issue is security. Government travel advisories continue to advise against all non-essential travel to Lebanon, particularly the south near the Israeli border, and describe the border with Syria as very dangerous. A US-mediated ceasefire that began on 16 April 2026 was extended, but both sides continued to fire at each other, and reporting from June said Beirut's airport was open but flights were being cancelled at short notice.
Border crossings
- Masnaa and Jdeidet Yabous, the Syrian corridor
The main official land crossing between Lebanon and Syria, known as Masnaa on the Lebanese side and Jdeidet Yabous on the Syrian side. On 4 April 2026, the Israeli army issued an evacuation warning for the area around Masnaa, and Syria temporarily suspended operations at its side, then reopened it on 9 April, running around the clock. Treat any plan that depends on this crossing as uncertain.

Advisories describe the south near the Israeli border as very dangerous because of the risk of armed conflict, and in April 2026 Israel issued forced evacuation orders in the south.

Beirut-Rafic Hariri International Airport stayed open in spring 2026, kept operating through coordination and international guarantees, but at reduced capacity, with most airlines suspending trips and the national carrier running fewer flights than normal.
