Guide
Luxembourg follows the ordinary Schengen rulebook, no visa needed for stays up to 90 days in any 180 day period for citizens of visa exempt countries, and that 90 day allowance is shared across the entire Schengen Area, not reset country by country. Since Luxembourg has no internal border checks with France, Germany, or Belgium, all three fellow Schengen neighbors, crossing between them and Luxembourg is a formality-free experience for most travelers. The standard Schengen documentation still applies, proof of sufficient funds, an onward or return ticket, hotel bookings or an invitation letter, and travel medical insurance covering at least 30,000 euros, valid across the whole Schengen Area.
From late 2026, ETIAS becomes mandatory for visa exempt visitors, a new pre-travel authorization step covering more than 60 nationalities including the US, Canada, the UK, and Ukraine, worth building into your planning for any trip from that point onward. A cash declaration rule also applies, 10,000 euros or its equivalent, on both entry and exit.
