Martinique, like its Caribbean neighbor Guadeloupe, is French territory outside the Schengen Area, and a Schengen visa issued by France or another Schengen country does not work here, a traveler who needs a visa has to get what is sometimes called a DOM Visa Extension for the overseas departments specifically. EU, EEA, Andorran, Monégasque, and Swiss citizens need only a valid identity card, no passport required for this group. US and Canadian citizens can enter without a visa for stays of up to three months with just a valid passport, a genuinely simple process for these two nationalities specifically.
