Niue, a self-governing state in free association with New Zealand, gives a specifically named list of nationalities a 30 day visitor permit on arrival with no visa needed at all, a list that includes Australia, Canada, most of the EU, Japan, New Zealand, the UK, the US, and a run of smaller Pacific nations too, Fiji, Kiribati, the Marshall Islands, Nauru, Samoa, the Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu among them. The standard checklist for that permit includes a passport valid for at least six months with two blank visa pages, proof of confirmed onward or return tickets, and proof of sufficient funds, a bank statement or cash.

Getting there is itself a genuinely narrow proposition: Niue is served exclusively by Air New Zealand, with flights departing from Auckland and landing at Hanan International Airport, there is no alternative airline or route in. A traveler planning to stay longer than the standard 30 days needs to apply for a visa before arrival, this is not something arranged after the fact once already on the island.
