Guide
Oman has been generous with the visa free list. Citizens of 103 countries can enter for up to 14 days without a visa, provided they can show a confirmed hotel reservation, health insurance, a return ticket, and proof of sufficient funds. A 14 day visit is also possible without a visa for anyone holding a valid visa from the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom, a Schengen country, or Japan. Passports must be valid for at least six months.
Longer stays go through the eVisa system run by the Royal Oman Police at evisa.rop.gov.om, where applicants upload documents, pay online, and receive approval by email. The main international entry points are Muscat International Airport and Salalah Airport, and by land the country is reached from the UAE and, since 2021, from Saudi Arabia.
Border crossings

The Rub' al Khali crossing is the only one linking Saudi Arabia with Oman. The highway to it, 564 kilometers from the Batha Haradh interchange, opened in December 2021, and the passenger area is designed for up to 1,700 vehicles a day. It is a long, remote desert drive, so fuel and provisions matter more than paperwork.

Guides say both crossings between the UAE and Oman operate 24 hours. Wajajah is the Omani name for the Hatta crossing, the main checkpoint for overland travel between the two countries and the one nearest Dubai. Wikipedia lists four crossings on the main southern section, Hatta/Al Wajajah, Hilli, Jebel Hafeet, and Khatmat Malaha, and two on Musandam, Tibat and Dibba.

There is only one official crossing between the mainland UAE and the Musandam peninsula. It is called Al Darah on the Ras Al Khaimah side and Tibat on the Omani side, and guides say most nationalities can get a free 14 day tourist visa on arrival there.

Travelers other than GCC and UAE nationals generally need an Oman eVisa or visa on arrival, plus a valid UAE visa for the return, since the UAE charges an exit fee of about AED 35 plus 5 percent VAT while Oman charges none.
