The Pitcairn Islands, the remote British Overseas Territory in the South Pacific, run a tiered entry permit system based on how long you plan to stay. For 14 days or less, visitors from the UK, EU, US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand among others can apply for a 30 US dollar entry permit right on arrival, provided they can show evidence of return transportation departing within that 14 day window, adequate accommodation, and medical and travel insurance that includes evacuation coverage. Longer visits, more than 14 days but less than 6 months, need a full entry clearance application completed well in advance, with guides recommending at least 3 months of lead time, and a non-refundable 150 New Zealand dollar fee.

Yacht arrivals follow their own separate track entirely, requiring advance approval and a landing fee, managed specifically through the territory's Tourism Coordinator, not the standard permit process. A passport needs at least six months of validity beyond your departure date, and proof of onward travel is required before any entry permit, short or long stay, can actually be approved.
