Palestine's West Bank and Gaza are two very different situations for a visitor, and most travel that happens goes through the West Bank. There is no separate Palestinian visa for entry through the Allenby Bridge, the King Hussein Bridge crossing from Jordan, Israeli authorities handle entry documentation there, and travelers on most Western passports receive an Israeli entry stamp or paper slip rather than anything issued by a Palestinian authority. Since 1 January 2025, travelers whose nationality is otherwise visa exempt for Israel need to obtain an ETA-IL, an electronic travel authorization, before arrival, at a cost of roughly 25 Israeli shekels, about 7 US dollars.
Gaza is a different question entirely. Entry has effectively been closed to tourists since 2007, requiring Israeli military coordination, with rare humanitarian exceptions processed through the Erez Crossing, and even leaving Gaza through Erez into Israel needs both a Hamas exit permit and an Israeli entry permit, granted mainly for medical cases. As of August 2026, the Allenby Bridge and the separate Sheikh Hussein crossing further north were both reported open and running regular hours, but this is a fast changing situation, and current status should be checked close to your travel date rather than assumed from any older report.

The main West Bank entry route for travelers coming from Jordan, with Israeli authorities processing entry documentation there. Book the Jordanian visa in advance at an embassy, consulate, or online, it is not available at the bridge itself.
- Sheikh Hussein Crossing, the other Jordan route
A second crossing further north, reported open alongside Allenby as of August 2026, and worth comparing against Allenby for routing depending on where in the West Bank or Jordan your trip starts or ends.
- Erez Crossing, into Gaza
Not a route available to tourists, reserved for coordinated and largely humanitarian movement, requiring permits from both Hamas and Israel.
Transit routes
- Sort your Jordanian visa before you reach the bridge
It has to be arranged at an embassy, consulate, or online in advance, arriving at Allenby without it already in hand is not an option.
- Check the ETA-IL requirement even if you are otherwise visa exempt
It is a separate, additional step introduced from 1 January 2025, not something the old visa exempt status covers on its own.
