Paraguay is visa free for many, with an important date attached. Under a visa waiver program in place through August 2027, citizens of the United States, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand can enter for tourism without a visa, and citizens of the United Kingdom and most EU countries are visa free too. All of them can stay up to 90 days, extendable once for another 90 days through the Dirección General de Migraciones before the first period ends, and passports must be valid for at least six months.
The other thing to know is the border with Argentina at Encarnación. Since 28 July 2025, a single border control has operated on the San Roque González de Santa Cruz Bridge between Encarnación and Posadas, and all immigration procedures across the bridge are done only on the Argentine side.

The cable-stayed San Roque González de Santa Cruz Bridge over the Paraná carries road and rail traffic between Paraguay and Argentina, and the single border control means you go through immigration once, on the Argentine side.

Silvio Pettirossi International Airport, in Luque about 10 to 14 kilometers from downtown Asunción, is the main international and domestic gateway.
