Tokelau is not a place you can currently visit as a tourist, and this is worth stating plainly rather than describing a normal entry process that does not actually apply. All three atolls have had a travel ban in place for every visitor since 2020, first implemented at the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, and as of a February 2026 revision from the Tokelau Department of Transport and Support Services, that ban had still not been lifted. It even covers what might seem like a technicality, a ban on visitors staying aboard the supply ship for an in-transit visit, traveling from Apia to Tokelau and back without ever leaving the vessel, is specifically included.
In ordinary circumstances, before the ban, every foreign visitor needed an entry permit, issued exclusively by the Tokelau Apia Liaison Office in Samoa, applied for about a month ahead of a planned visit. That process describes what reopening would look like, but it is not a current option, the travel ban overrides it entirely for now.
