A confirmed return ticket to the traveler's home country, or an onward ticket and any visa needed for the next destination, is required and should be carried at the port of entry alongside the printed ETA approval notice

Beyond that grace period, a flat USD 250 penalty applies for an overstay of 7 to 14 days, rising to a flat USD 500 penalty beyond 14 days, both in addition to the applicable visa fee, confirmed directly against a government gazette issued under Section 23 of the Immigrants and Emigrants Act. An appeal for exemption from the penalty can be made to the Controller of Visa and Border Control

Declare cash above USD 15,000 combined foreign currency, confirmed directly against Sri Lanka Customs regulations, amounts above this must be declared on arrival; Sri Lankan Rupees carried in or out are separately capped at LKR 20,000 per person; Indian and Pakistani currency notes are prohibited from import or export entirely.

Apply online through the official ETA portal or in person at the Department of Immigration and Emigration in Colombo. The initial 30 day ETA can be extended, secondary sources describe extensions of 60 days then 90 days then a further 90 days, for a commonly cited maximum total stay of 270 days, at a commonly cited fee of roughly USD 40 per 30 day extension, though the official ETA portal's own extension page states only a general 30 to 90 day extension range without publishing an exact cumulative maximum or fee, treat the 270 day figure and the USD 40 fee as a reported approximation rather than an officially confirmed number

Travelers arriving from, or having recently transited, a list of around 49 countries with yellow fever risk must present a yellow fever vaccination certificate, a real requirement tied to recent travel history rather than to the traveler's own nationality, so it is not reflected on any individual passport country's own visa_rules row
