Namibia changed its mind about visas, and a lot of guidebooks have not caught up. On 1 April 2025 it ended visa free entry for 33 nationalities, including the EU countries, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, and the United States, citing a lack of reciprocal agreements. Affected travelers can still get a visa without visiting an embassy, either online through the eVisa system or on arrival at designated ports of entry, and the visa on arrival is described as costing 1,600 Namibian dollars, roughly 88 US dollars, for non-African nationals and 1,200 dollars for African nationals, for a maximum of 90 days.
About two dozen countries remain visa exempt for up to three months within a calendar year, including Angola, Botswana, Brazil, Cuba, Kenya, Malaysia, Mauritius, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, and Zimbabwe. Every visitor needs a passport valid for at least six months, and guides add that it should have at least three blank pages for the entry and exit stamps.
Border crossings

The Zambezi and Chobe rivers meet at a quadripoint where Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, and Namibia touch, near the Kazungula crossing. The bridge itself connects Botswana and Zambia, so a Namibian itinerary that includes Chobe or Victoria Falls involves crossing at least one other country's border.

The visa on arrival is issued only at designated ports of entry, so if you plan an overland arrival, check that your crossing is on the list, or apply online before you travel.

Applying online avoids a queue and a cash payment at the port, and it is the route Namibia itself recommends for affected nationalities.

The region's borders are close together, and each country has its own visa arrangement, so work out the rule for each border, not just the first.
